Available for Adoption

LC - Texas

Hi! My name is LC, for Little Cow, because I have cow spots and also it sounds like Elsie. I'm three years old and weigh twelve pounds. I could stand to gain a little weight, though. My foster mom gives me some tasty food so I'm working on the weight thing. I am house trained and will go in a crate to sleep or sleep in a doggie bed, whatever you want me to do. I'm not destructive and can be left alone without any anxiety.

I lived for a couple of weeks with a nice family and their Rattie. Before that I lived with five Chihuahuas and six cats. It's a little quieter at my new digs and I am getting used to it...and I kinda like it! There's other doggies to play with me, but I prefer the little Rattie girl that is about my age; we have fun in the yard. I like to sit in my fostermom's lap at night and watch TV. I used a doggie door (in the door) at my last house, but this house has a doggie door in the wall and I am still a little unsure about it, since it has two flaps. I went through it yesterday when I saw a treat on the other side. The other foster rattie here told me to wait for the treats - no sense in going through it for free! She's been here longer so I listened to her - I'm smart!

I love to go for walks outside and see new territory. Those people on bicycles look like they're having fun so I bark at them to ride faster. Mom tells me to hush, they're riding as fast as they can! Check out my photos at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/lc I'd be a wonderful addition to a quiet family that would allow me to warm up to them at my own pace. Could it be you???

Available for Adoption

Harry - Alabama

Harry is a 6 year old male Rat Terrier who left his adoptive family due to their illnesses. He has been well loved, so he doesn’t have some of the issues other dogs may have. Harry is house broken and has only had one accident in his foster home (the first night, after driving from Indiana to Alabama). Harry is a calm, loving dog who loves to play ball and run with his fosterRattie brother, JoeJoe - also a Rattie.

Harry weighs 22 pounds and the vet said he is in perfect health! He isn’t a barker. Harry does alert his foster family when someone is at the door, but he isn’t a “yip-yip” kind of dog at all. At the end of the day Harry likes to cuddle and watch TV, and he will let his fostermom know when it’s time to go to bed; he sleeps all night without needing to go out. Harry is great with children and even with strangers. He is very smart, and can say “Mama”! Harry does well at home with JoeJoe while everyone's at work. He has not chewed any shoes or broken anything. This dog is a sweetheart and a treasure. We know someone will be very lucky to get him!

Available for Adoption

Foxy Roxy - Florida

Are you looking for a “turn key” dog? If so, little Miss Foxy Roxy might be the dog for you! She’s housebroken (dog door or regular walks), crate trained, good in a car and on a leash, submissive to other dogs and humans, plus she’s sweet and snuggly. Roxy likes nothing more than to play and love her humans and canine companions. She has a very strong prey drive and will rid your yard of lizards and pesky squirrels.

Roxy was found as a stray and is in the last stages of heartworm treatment, so she will not be available for adoption until early December. She’s been a trooper spending all of her time in a crate during treatment. Her age is estimated to be no more than 2 years old. Roxy came into rescue thin but plenty of good food has her physique looking good and her soft fur shining.

She’s very playful, speedy, and mouthy so she might not be a good match for small children. However - she’s highly motivated by food and treats, so will probably train easily; Roxy's foster mama is waiting until her crate time is over before working with her. This wonderful little girl’s positive attitude would likely fit well in a variety of environments so if you are looking for a sweet, small, playful companion, Roxy just might be your girl!

Available for Adoption

Samantha in Ohio

Samantha is a very playful and happy girl. At 5.5 years old she is active, and needs a fair amount of exercise - though she also loves to curl up in your lap or next to you on the couch. Sam is funny, expressive, vocal, likes to give kisses and to sleep in bed with her person. When out walking she can be a little wary of other dogs at first, but once she meets them she's fine - especially larger dogs.
Samantha doesn't have much experience with cats, but because she has a strong prey drive she would probably chase them. Sam hasn't been around children very much, but seems to do just fine with them. She is house-trained and has had some obedience training; Samantha knows how to sit, stay, come, down, shake, and roll over - though she does pull a bit when walking on a leash. Sam weighs 16 pounds, so she is large enough for an active family that wants their dog along on runs and camping trips. Samantha's ideal home would have a well-fenced yard for her to run and play in.

Available for Adoption

Jorge in Oregon

Jorge (pronounced the Spanish way: 'HOR-hey'), is a sleek Rat Terrier with erect ears and a long tail. He was rescued from a hoarding situation and then held in a shelter for a few months. Jorge is still learning about how to get along in a human home. The stairs were foreign objects at first, but now he navigates them with ease. Jorge was very well socialized to dogs, but wasn't sure about humans. He's still rather shy of reaching hands.
Jorge wears an easy-walk harness and is learning to walk where the human leads, rather than where he wants to go. He is submissive to other dogs and will likely get along with any dog in his future home. Jorge has visited the local dog park and went to a regional Ratbone Rescues gathering, where he waited politely in an ex-pen that he could have easily jumped out of. He is gentle and playful. Due to his background, he thinks that many plastic things are chew toys (single-serve salad dressing packets, food storage containers), so new and better chew toys should be available in his forever home.
Jorge watches his human closely and responds to his name. Humans who are lying down are much less scary; he may come up and snuggle right up to you if you're lying down. He has responded to clicker training, and is agile & eager to jump up on things. Jorge does not do well with the outdoor cats at his foster home. He has not been exposed to children, but should do well with respectful children over the age of 12.
Jorge still needs a bit of help with his potty training. He has not demonstrated any tendency to food guarding, probably due to his extreme submissiveness. Jorge is blossoming into an affectionate dog, and will need just the right forever home to help complete his transformation from an abandoned pack dog to a beloved pampered pet.

Spirit In Florida

Spirit was found wandering around in an office complex, living off scraps. She is estimated to be about 1 year old, and weighs approximately 14 pounds. Spirit loves to play with other dogs, and is respectful of the kitties in her foster home. She keeps a clean, dry crate overnight, and is not food- aggressive. But Spirit is still trying to find trust for humans - especially men. She doesn't try to bite men - she just barks at them and keeps a close eye on them when they come around; she also "complains" about them to her fostermom quite vocally. We think Spirit would be okay with children over the age of 6, as long as they let her get to know them before trying to get rowdy with her; with her fostermom she is loving and protective. Spirit uses the dog door to go out to potty. To see more picturess http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/spirit

Antonio BandeRATS on Florida

Antonio BandeRats ("Tony" to his friends) was rescued from a kill shelter in Louisiana. He is a 6 month old, chocolate tri-colored, purebred Rat Terrier; he weighs about 10 pounds, but is a little too thin. Tony is affectionate and very well-behaved for a pup his age. He plays will with the other dogs in his foster home, is respectful of the cats, and is good on a leash (though he will dart out a door if given the chance). Tony keeps a clean, dry crate at night and uses a dog door for potty during the day. We expect Tony to be about 15 pounds when fully mature. Meet Tulia in Florida

Tulia was originally rescued two years ago, from a shelter in Kentucky. She was adopted, but when her family fell on difficult financial times she was returned to Ratbone Rescues. Tulia is very sweet and loving. She likes to sit in your lap, and would love to sleep in bed with her forever family! Tulia keeps a clean, dry crate overnight - and so far has not had any accidents in the house. She plays with the other dogs in her foster home, and gives all the kitties kisses. Tulia has lived with a toddler and an older child with no problems. She is now about 3 years old, weighs only 10 pounds, and has the most adorable under-bite you ever saw! If you think you can give little Tulia a truly "forever" home please fill out an application today.

Updated Bio for Rio in Arizona

Rio is the coolest little guy! He is friendly, smart, and loves to cuddle on the couch while getting a good scratch behind his ears. Rio is happy almost all of the time, has an infectious grin, and an adorable play bow. He has some great cow-like markings on his body and is quite handsome. Rio has obviously had some good training; he knows basic obedience commands like "sit" and "lay down", and he is solidly house trained. Rio is polite in public and will quietly sit or lay down next to you and soak in the surroundings while you chat with your friends. He enjoys playing fetch and tug, and recently completed a beginning Flyball class, - where he did very well. Rio would be a great dog to walk with, go to the dog park with, and possibly play dog sports with - if you are so inclined; if not, he's content to hang out on the couch with you all day! He is crate trained and (if you leave it open) will go into his crate by himself sometimes just to relax. Rio would do best as an only dog, as he does not like to share his toys or food with other dogs.

Available for Adoption

Ace In Arizona

Meet Ace... one of the most well-natured, happy-go-lucky Ratties you will ever meet! Ace is a big boy, weighing in at a whopping 22.6 pounds! He is 10 months old so he does still have puppy tendencies; like chewing. Ace is 95% housetrained when taken out on a regular schedule. He walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and does well with cats and other dogs. Prior to coming to Ratbones, Ace had not been around young children. However, he has become quick friends with the resident 2 year old toddler. Ace would love to have a canine brother or sister in his new home, but he would be ok as an only dog as well. He loves a good game of fetch, although he’s not always willing to give the ball back! Ace is a big teddy bear and has a very easy-going personality. If you’re looking for a solid, handsome boy with a happy, loving, easy-going personality, Ace would be a great fit for your home.

Ivy In Arizona

Hi, I'm Ivy. I am a small standard-sized Rattie, and I weigh about 14 pounds. I'm a bit slim, but I do have a great appetite. I am about 1 year old, and boy am I smart! I was turned in to a shelter, but I don't know why. I know how to sit, lay, shake, come and stay. I pay close attention to my foster mom and take corrections very well; I like to do the right thing. Oh - and I can walk on my hind legs and dance in circles! I'll bet if you adopted me I could learn a bunch more tricks - maybe even excel at agility training. I enjoy people, dogs and even cats. I play with a 6 month old kitten and we have a great time. I do get very excited when my family comes home, but I settle down pretty quick. I also like to go for walks on a leash and play with toys; I like to carry them around in my mouth and sometimes hide them so no one else will get them; smart huh? I have also been doing excellent on house-training; no accidents since I arrived at my foster home! All in all I am smart, good looking, friendly and love to cuddle: what else could you want in a dog!
