Introducing Midnight (Florida)

Midnight came to rescue when her owner moved out of state and was unable to take her. She is 3-1/2 years old and weighs 14 pounds. Midnight is a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix standing 10" tall at the shoulder and is a bit stocky. She is already housebroken and crate trained. She is an active girl, but also likes to sit on your lap for all the attention you can give her. She also loves to swim in the pool!

Introducing Tilly

Tilly is a 6-7 year old, 8 pound miniature rat terrier that was used as a breeding dog at a puppy mill. She's a sweet little girl who wants to please, but because of her neglected life she has many fear issues regarding humans. She's been working hard to get used to life as a family dog and has made great strides in her confidence but she has a long ways to go before she will be able to fully trust someone. To see more photos of sweet Tilly, visit her photo set on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7248979@N08/sets/72157606652547747/

Introducing Tinka

Tinka is a 2 year old house broken, crate trained girl who doesn't bother the kitties in her fosterhome. She was left at a shelter after her owner died. Tinka is new to fostercare so her fosterparents are still getting to know her. You can see more photos of Tinka by clicking here.

Introducing Tiney

Hi, I'm Tiney! When ratbone took me in I had a deadly heart condition. I was born with a hole in my heart. Right away these great people raised money for me and brought me to a surgeon where I received life saving surgery. My chances of a full recovery were grim. My surgery was a success in closing the hole in my heart but I still had a murmur. I went back to the surgeon in 3 months for a follow up and at that point, I shocked the doctor by making a great recovery! I still have a slight murmur and will need someone who can afford to do follow ups with a heart doctor and is diligent with my heart care to insure my long life span.

Poor Doobie was left at a shelter after his owner died. We suspect he may have Decker in his blood line due to his size (29 lbs.). He appears to be house and crate trained although his foster family is still getting to know him, To see more photos of him, click here.

Raffle Dogs

Ratbone Rescues reimburses for ALL vet bills incurred by our fosterhomes. That’s where money from our major fundraisers (Quilt Raffle, etc…) goes, into the General Vetting Fund. However, often times we have additional vetting issues that arise. Tiny, the little Ratty with PDA is one example. Because of the generosity of everybody, we were able to raise the $3,500 necessary to pay for his surgery and follow-up care, and he is now able to live a long, healthy life, without needing to use any of Ratbone’s General Vet Fund!!Routine dental services is not something Ratbone normally reimburses, unless it’s a re-occurring problem and the dogs have severe dental disease. We currently have 2 dogs that require extensive dental vet services. Can you please help Ratbone raise money to pay for these 2 Ratbone babies?

East CoastOh Mickey (aka Mocha Mickey Budda Belly Muckalucka) is fostered by Sue Carello and is in Scotia, NY. He has recently had some unexpected oral surgery costing approximately $600.00+. Mickey had some sort of reoccurring abscess on his gum, and required surgery to drain and heal it. Mickey had surgery last Thursday and is healing and doing very well, thanks to the expertise of my wonderful vet, Dr. Bart, who gives Ratbone a generous discount on vetting services and also allows me to carry a balance on Ratbone’s Vet Bill.

West CoastWaldo is 8 years old, a pure bred Rattie, and came into Ratbone’s foster care in California because his mom who is in her late 70s had Alzheimer and she had to be put into an assisted living place & her 80 yr old husband decided to go too. Robin, Waldo’s fostermom got him about 10 months ago. His breath was so bad when she got him and she knew he had an infection. Robin brought him to her vet, and they put him on an antibiotic. It cleaned up the infection however they noticed at least one cracked tooth and dental disease and said he would need further treatment, including extractions if the infection comes back because of the severe periodontal disease he has. The infection came back, and Waldo needs a cleaning, extractions and further treatment – the estimated cost of Waldo's vetting will be approximately $500-$750.

See previous post for details on the raffle.

Ratbone Raffle

Ratbone is holding a raffle to raise funds for the dental work of a couple terriers in foster care. This first item is "Cooper's bracelet". It was named in honor of a rat terrier rescued from a puppy mill, fostered by Ratbone, and then adopted to a loving person in California. One day while walking in the desert, Cooper and his forever mama stumbled upon a rattlesnake. Cooper bravely jumped in front of his owner and attacked and killed the snake; however, his heroism came at a cost. Cooper died as a result of the snake's bite.

Here is a photo of brave little Cooper.

The second item in the auction is this really cool photomosaic of a rat terrier. It's an 8" X 10" piece made from over 1,000 smaller images. This is a very unusual piece and the artist will make no more than 25 of these. Each will be signed and numbered. Ratbone has one of this very special artpiece for the raffle.
Next is a unique Christmas ornament made with a rattie! Isn't it sweet?

And finally a Rattie T-shirt. XL, white, 100% heavyweight cotton.

Now that you've seen these wonderful items, you are probably wondering how to purchase a ticket! Tickets will be sold through Saturday, November 1st and the winning ticket will be drawn Sunday, November 2nd. Tickets are $5.00 each, 3 for $10.00 and 7 for $25.00 - see pictures below for raffle items! For PayPal and Credit Card Purchases, please go to www.paypal.com, and send payment to redwon234@gmail. com, with the amount and how many tickets you wish to purchase, and make sure to note "East/West Coast Raffle". North Carolina Puppymill Raid

Ratbone is dedicated to helping rat terriers in need. Sometimes these are stray dogs on the street and sometimes they are dogs turned into shelters by their owners who are unable or unwilling to care for them. Sometimes the unthinkable happens - dog breeding is turned into factory production for profit (a.k.a. the puppymill). Click here for more information on puppymills but, be warned, the conditions in which these dogs live can be disturbing.

Pictured above is Spring. She was recently removed from a puppymill raid in North Carolina where 137 rat terriers were kept for breeding. Spring is 10 years old and gave birth during this ordeal. Spring and her surviving puppy are now in the care of Ratbone where they will have a chance for a better life - a life where they will be loved and cared for in a forever home. Spring will be spayed and no longer used for profit. To learn more about the North Carolina bust, please click here. Don't worry - no grusome photos.

There were also a couple of other senior "ladies" with young pups taken during the raid. If you would like to assist Ratbone with the expenses incurred in rehabilitating and rehoming these mamas and their pups, please go to the Sponsor Page on Ratbone's website, click on the Paypay link, and specify "puppymill".
