Burdock "Doc" - Florida

Burdock (Doc for short) and his 4 brothers and sisters were dumped at a Louisiana kill shelter when they were only five weeks old. They rode a rescue transport all the way to Florida, and are now living with older dogs and 3 kitties. Doc is paper trained and learning to go outside to potty. Right now he still sleeps in a big pile with his siblings, but he's just about old enough to learn to sleep all night in a crate. Doc is a sweet, shy boy who weighs 7 pounds. He is now 10 weeks old, so should reach about 15-17 pounds by adulthood. Doc has a full tail, and his ears are large and "dropped" (like a Beagle's). We think he might have had a different Daddy than the other pups, because he also has very stubby legs and big feet. In this picture of Doc he is posing pretty with his little brother Indi. Available for Adoption

Gilbert - Georgia

Gilbert is estimated to be between 10 and 15 years old and weighs only 4 pounds. The older estimate probably attributed to his being a stray with four bad teeth when found which probably had made it difficult for him to eat for a long time. He was given a dental and since has had a healthy appetite and already looks much better. And he is a very pretty little doggie. Oother than a slight urinary tract infection (which has been remedied with a regimen of antibiotics), he has no medical problems. He has no chronic conditions other than a little arthritis in his front left leg, on his first joint. It causes his joint to slide in and out on occasion which does not slow him down in the least or cause obvious discomfort. He loves to run and play and jumps on and off of the coach. Obviously, he was a very loved pet at one time, as he loves to be doted on and is extremely social. Gilbert gets along well with cats, children and other small dogs. However, he is intimidated by dogs over 20 pounds, and will growl at them when they get too close. Gilbert is also house-trained and has never had one accident. He is adamant about only using the bathroom outside and will hold himself for as long as necessary (this is probably why he had the urinary tract infection). Due to his diminutive size and older years a home within ground transport distnce (600 miles or less) would be preferential for this lovable little guy. Available For Adoption

Trigger - Florida

Trigger (mostly known as Tig) was born in a shelter in North Georgia; he is currently 2 years old. His Mama was a little Rattie named "Wicca"; she and her 5 babies came to Florida to foster when Tig was only 5 weeks old. One by one the puppies were adopted, except for little Tig - who didn't look at all like a Rat Terrier. Then Wicca was adopted. Tig finally found his home when he was 5 months old. Sadly, his family didn't socialize him properly, and he now has some issues that they were not willing to deal with. Tig has separation anxiety (which caused him to bark uncontrollably when left home alone) and fear issues (related to a lack of socialization while he was growing up). He has been on medication for his condition for 2 months now, and is showing quite a bit of improvement. Still, we hope to find sweet Tig a family with someone who's at home all the time, so he doesn't need to feel anxious or afraid of losing his person ever again. Trigger is house-broken and crate trained. He weighs 18 pounds, though he's still very thin looking. To see more pictures of Tig please click http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/trigger

Sweety Petey - New York

Meet Sweety Petey, otherwise known as Pete. He is a handsome 1.5 year old, 18 pound boy who loves to snuggle and give rattie kisses! Petey came from a shelter in West Virginia with his brother, where they had spent their whole lives, and he is now looking for a home to call his own. Petey is doing well with potty training - with just the occasional accident. He is crate trained and will go in on his own when he needs a break from everything. He loves to sleep in bed at night and will gladly wait until you're ready to get up before he wakes! Petey is a little shy of every day noises, having grown up in the shelter, but opens right up after a bit and is learning that things aren't that scary. He lives with young children and does well for the most part, but would be happier with children over 8 years of age, as he can be a bit cranky if disturbed by the little ones when in his crate or sleeping. He gets along great with his foster brothers and is starting to play. Petey walks wonderful on a leash and has a very calm attitude on life. Can you give this big boy with an even bigger heart a home?

Available For Adoption

SASHA (Florida)

Sasha is a Rat Terrier-Dachshund mix, according to the shelter in Louisiana. Her former owners dumped Sasha and her 3 baby girl puppies there when the pups were only 4 weeks old. Sasha is 2 o 3 years old. She weighs 19 pounds at this time, but at least 4 pounds of that is "baby fat" - from eating her babies' food! Once her last puppy goes home we expect to see some weight come off pretty quickly. Sasha is housebroken and will use a dog door for potty breaks. She walks well on a leash, and greets everyone she meets as if they were long-lost friends. To see more photos of Sasha please go to: http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/sasha

Available For Adoption

Casey (Pennsylvania)
Hi! My name is Casey Ratbone. I am around a year old and weigh about 9 pounds. I could stand to gain a couple of pounds, though! I am a very sweet little boy who loves to cuddle and give kisses. I also love to play with toys and be the center of attention. I'm doing well with house training as well; only a couple of accidents so far! I do well in my crate, although I may bark for a couple minutes when I first get in. I also LOVE to go for walks! It's one of my favorite things, and my foster mom thinks I do pretty well on-leash! I get along with my 2 foster brother dogs and the cat in the house. I think I would like kids 12+ years old, as I am a little scared around smaller people.

Available For Adoption

Sorley (New York)
Here is Mr. Sorley Ratbone! Sorley is a standard Rat Terrier, about 1 to 2 years old, weighing about 18 pounds. He is in the process of losing a few excess pounds to get his "girlish figure" back! Sorley is crate trained and housebroken, and gets along OK with other dogs - as long as they’re a bit on the submissive side; he would probably do best in a one dog home! In his foster home, he LOVES to play with his foster-sister Sierra, and really loves his resident buddy, Snoopy.
Sorley is a bit possessive of his crate with other dogs (but not with his humans), so any forever home needs to be aware of that. He is very loving with his fostermom, is a very happy fellow, and loves to romp outside or curl up on the couch. Sorley will not be a good match for a family with small children – older children over the age of 10 only please. Sorley does get along with cats! When Sorley gets adopted, he will be SORELY missed by his fostermom!

Available For Adoption

Sierra (NY)
Please meet Sierra! Sierra is a Teddy Roosevelt Ratty, or B-Type body Ratty. She had a pretty rough start in life. She was seized from another rescue group in Kentucky, where she and about 300 other dogs were kept in an abandoned school house classroom. Poor little Sierra had terrible mange, which has been treated, and now she's ready to find her forever home! You would never know this precious little girl has had it rough, because she is always happy! Her little nubby is always wagging and she’s always ready to play!

She loves people, other dogs and she even did well when she met children (although we are not sure about cats)! She is just an overall very sweet girl who would fit in almost any household! She is crate trained and housebroken, and although the shelter had her listed at approximately 5 years old, her fostermom believes she is closer to 2 because her teeth are extremely white and have little plaque or discoloration! Please give this precious little girl the forever home she deserves!

Available For Adoption

ODY (Georgia)

Odysseus - "Ody" - is named after a valiant Greek hero from the Trojan war, who overcame many obstacles to return to his home. Thanks to Ratbone Rescues Ody is overcoming his obstacle of neglect. He's an adorable little bundle at 11 pounds, and is also very lively and spunky. Ody is hand shy and fearful when first meeting people; however, after just a few short days in his foster home he is growing more confident. He loves playing with his foster brother and sisters and doing rat runs with them. He is approximately 1 1/2 years old and is a very sweet little guy.

Ody enjoys being held and cuddled and will snuggle right under your chin. He hasn't had any potty accidents since coming into foster care. He has not been introduced to very young children or toddlers and is very frightened of teenagers and strangers when first meeting them, but given a little time and patience he warms up quickly. Ody sleeps all night in his crate and will scratch on it if he needs to go potty. If you're up for a small, sweet, little love bug then Ody is your perfect match. He will quickly steal your heart.

Available for Adoption

ROXIE (Texas)

Roxie is a young adult, purebred Rat Terrier, weighing around 12 pounds. She is housebroken and obedience trained (she responds to sit, down, stay, leave it, etc). Roxie is also crate trained, walks well on a leash, and has very good "recall". She gets along excellently with children and other animals. Roxie is a very sweet and loving dog. Like all Ratties she needs regular exercise – we do long walks, running and Frisbee, which she loves. Her most favorite thing in the world to do (other than trying to catch squirrels) is to be with her Mom. She loves it when tey can work from home, and is very happy to hang out in her bed next to the desk. She also loves to hang out on the bed at night and I watch TV.
Roxie will also entertain herself; she loves to chew on her "bones" and play with her squeaky toys. Her only "fault" might be that she is quite submissive when scolded (crouching, crawling, and some submissive wetting). Roxie will bark and sometimes dig if left alone or ignored, and she will act dominant (i.e. pack leader) if permitted to do so. She very much needs to be with a family that will not leave her alone all day, and will give her lots of attention and exercise. Roxie would love a home with other dogs or even a cat that will interact with her.

Note: This dog is a "Guardian Assistance Placement" dog, meaning he/she is being cared for in a home that is not affiliated with Ratbone Rescues. The guardian has suppliedvet records and signed an agreement giving Ratbone the right and responsibility to rehome the dog, but Ratbone does not have physical custody and cannot otherwise vouch for any of the information provided.

Available for Adoption

JERSEY - Southern Indiana

Jersey is a beautiful tri-colored, 7 year old Rat Terrier that is about 12 inches tall, weighing 10 pounds. She was surrendered to Ratbone in January (09), and is one of the worst cases of neglect that her foster mom has seen. When she first came into foster care the poor gal slinked along the floor and was literally frozen with fear. Poor Jersey with the lovely brown eyes was a puppy mill breeder dog when she entered foster care; she was frightened of everything, including dogs, cats, grass, loud noises, and especially humans. She has adjusted well to being with her fostermoms and lnow loves snuggling. With two months of good food and love she is warming up and starting to become a loving and fun little snuggle-bunny. Poor Jersey didn’t know that humans could be gentle and loving, and she was always fearful of being hit or harmed before she came into rescue. She was afraid of going through doorways, but can now cross the threshold to go outside without fear. In just a few months she has learned to trust people, and she enjoys hanging out on the bed and sleeping under the covers. Jersey is ok on a leash and gets along with all of the dogs and cats she lives with, but is still very leery of strangers. Given a little time, she will come out and meet everyone in the room. She's not quite potty trained, but is getting better every day. Due to her shyness and small size Jersey would not do well in a home with small children, though she does well with teenagers. When things get a little overwhelming for Jersey she can be found hanging out under the bed with her friend Topaz the cat, and her buddy Brown County Pete. Jersey needs a forever home that is quiet and calm, with a special someone who can take the time to gain her trust and allow her to get use to a new home and family.

Available for Adoption

BROWN COUNTY PETE - Southern Indiana

Brown County Pete is a beautiful tri-colored, 7 year old Rat Terrier that is about 12 inches tall, weighing 10 pounds. Pete was surrendered to Ratbone about 3 months ago and is one of the worst cases of neglect that his foster mom has seen. When he first came into foster care the poor guy was literally frozen with fear. Pete was a puppy mill stud dog when he entered foster care; he was frightened of everything, including dogs, cats, grass, loud noises, and especially humans. Pete is nearly blind in one eye. He has adjusted well to being with his fostermoms and loves snuggling. With 2 months of good food and love, he is warming up to his foster family and, he is now starting to become a loving and fun little snuggle bunny. Poor Pete didn’t he know that humans could be gentle and loving – until he went home with his forstermom. He was afraid of going out doors, but now he's ok with crossing the threshold and going outside. In just a few months he has learned to trust people, and he enjoys hanging out on the bed and sleeping on the pillows. Pete is good on a leash and gets along with all of the dogs and cats he lives with, but is still very leery of strangers. He is not quite potty trained but is getting better every day. Due to his shyness, and his small size he would not do well in a home with small children, but he does well with teenagers. When things get a little overwhelming for Pete he can be found hanging out under the bed with his friend (Topaz the cat). Pete needs a forever home that is quiet and calm, with a special someone who will take the time to gain his trust ,and allow him to get use to a new home and family.

Scrappy (Florida)

Scrappy is a very sweet and loving little boy. He is 2 years old and weighs 13 pounds. Scrappy was surrendered when his owner became too ill to care for him. He enjoys being with the people in his life, also he enjoys lap time with you in the evening. His favorite treat is when he gets a bone that is just his. He even enjoys spending time with the human kids. Scrappy knows basic commands such as "sit" and "outside". Scrappy is great with the cats. He is crate trained as well. Scrappy likes to think he is in charge of all the other dogs, and is learning what is okay and what is not. His bark is a bit hampered due to the over use of a anti bark collar prior to rescue. Scrappy does well in the house with regular potty times. He will do best in a house where he is the only dog. Scrappy does not have any issues other than needing to be reassured it is okay to come out of his crate. For more pictures of Scrappy please visit http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/scrappy

Pebbles (Florida)

My name is Pebbles! I am about 1 year old and weigh just over 15 pounds. I was rescued from a shelter when they found out I was positive for heart worms. I will begin treatment at the end of March. I will not be able to go to my forever home until after I have completed the treatment (around the end of April). I am a exceptionally sweet girl. I love to play with all the toys I can have and I get along great with all of the other dogs at my foster home (I'm not bothered by the cats either). I enjoy people of all ages, the ones I like best are the ones that will love me. I also enjoy some couch time while you are watching TV. I have done very well in the house with regular potty breaks. I am crate trained, however I don't always keep it clean. My foster mom believes that is because prior to being turned into the shelter I was kept outside. I am always happy to see my people and will jump up into your lap if you will let me. To see more pictures of me, click http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/pebbles

Costello (Florida)

My name is Costello! I was born in April 2008, and weigh about 15 pounds. I am an exceptionally happy boy. I love to play with the toys and the other dogs at my foster home. I get along great with all of the other dogs, and am not bothered by the cats either. I enjoy people of all ages. I also enjoy having a bone to chew on. I am also learning that I can spend time on the couch with my foster mom. I even enjoy sitting on her lap when she is at the computer. I have done very well in the house with regular potty breaks. I am crate trained, and keep it clean. When it's time to go outside I know the way to get to the door. I'm on the quieter side, do not bark a lot, and I'm always happy to see my people. To see more pictures of me, please visit http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/costello

Bucke Rucke (North Carolina)

Bucke has been in rescue since March 6, 2009. He was an owner surrender. Bucke loves kids, gets along with other dogs and knows no strangers. We don't know about cats. Bucke is very vocal; he loves to talk to his people. The only thing we are having to work on right now is his desire to mark in the house, but with supervision he does really well. He loves attention and gives the sweetest kisses.

Daphne ( South Carolina)

Daphne Dupuy was rescued from a shelter in Louisiana that euthanizes by gassing. Ratbone Rescues could not allow this, as Daphne is one terribly sweet dog. She is a beautiful, ten month old Border Rat, or Border Collie/Rat Terrier mix, weighing in at 29 pounds. She is extremely clever and well socialized. She loves to play with toys and loves to be with the special people in her life. She could run and frolic all day, but she does know how to calm down, takes basic cues quickly. She also walks well on a leash. Daphne found the dog door herself on the first day in her foster home, and knew instinctively what it was for. She gets along very well with other dogs, but is frightened of the cat; she will approach, as she is very inquisitive, but then will whine and run in the other direction. To see more photos of Daphne please click this link http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/daphnedupuy.

Lady (Pennsylvania)

Lady is a 5 to 6 year old female Rat Terrier who came into rescue due to the death of her owner. She is slightly overweight at about 18 pounds, but her foster family is working on bringing her weight down a bit. Lady is a very affectionate and sweet girl with a great personality who loves everyone she meets, and for the most part she is pretty laid back. She enjoys her people and will follow you around as you move from room to room. Lady is housebroken but is not fully trustworthy if left alone in the house, so she should be crated when you leave.
