Available for Adoption

Leo Chewmeister - Florida

Leo Chewmeister came from a kill shelter in Louisiana. He is about 3 months old and weighs a little over 6 pounds; we expect Leo (aka Chewy) to reach about 17 to 20 pounds when grown. We think Leo is a "Rocker"; a Rat Terrier-Cocker Spaniel mix. He has a relatively smooth coat, but has fuzz on his muzzle, along the edges of his ears, and on his feet. This may or may not thicken as he matures. Leo is 90% housebroken, will use a doggie door to go out most of the time, and has kept a clean, dry crate since he got to his foster home in mid-August. He loves to play with the other puppies at his foster home, and to lick his fostermom's ankles while she's on the computer. Leo also loves to be held and snuggled. Dookie Martuchi - Florida

Little Dookie Martuchi was left at a kill shelter in Louisiana at the tender age of 4 weeks, weighing only 2.5 pounds. He had sarcoptic mange - a very contagious condition caused by a nasty little skin mite. Dookie is now 12 weeks old and completely free of mites; his hair has grown back, and he's ready to find a family of his very own. Dookie is already housebroken with a doggie door and keeps a clean, dry crate at night. He loves to get (and give) kisses & cuddles, and plays well with the other dogs and puppies in his foster home. Dookie weighs about 5 pounds, and will most likely reach 10 to 12 pounds by the time he's finished growing. For additional photos of Dookie please check
http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/dookiemartuchi

Little Mister Martuchi is full of hope and confidence, and looking for a family who needs someone to hang out with, get kisses from, and go on long walks with. He's waiting as patiently as he can, but please hurry if you think you might be his family!

Available for Adoption

Both of these beautiful pups are being fostered in Jacksonville, FLorida:
Mishka (b. June 2009)

Little Mishka was rescued from a kill shelter in Florida, along with her sister Troika. They were born (approximately) on June 10, 2009. Mishka weighs 6 pounds, and is a "b-type" (short legged) Rat Terrier. We estimate her adult weight will be around 15 pounds. Mishka is playful and affectionate, and mostly respectful of the adult fogs in her foster home. She already uses the doggie door to go outside to potty about 90% of the time; if she can't get out the dog door she will use a puppy piddle pad reliably. For more photos (and frequent additions) please check

Troika (b. June 2009)

Baby Troika was rescued from a kill shelter in Florida, along with her sister Mishka. They were born (approximately) on June 10, 2009. Troika weighs just 3.75 pounds, and is a "b-type" (short legged) Rat Terrier. We estimate her adult weight will be around 10-12 pounds. Because of her very small size we feel that a home with adults only or one with children over the age of 10 will be best. Troika is playful and affectionate, and very respectful of the adult fogs in her foster home. She already uses the doggie door to go outside to potty about 90% of the time; if she can't get out the dog door she will use a puppy piddle pad reliably. For more photos (and frequent additions) please check http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/troikamishka

Available for Adoption

Bobby - Florida

Bobby was rescued from a kill shelter in central Florida. She is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs about 10 pounds. Bobby is a nice girl with lots of energy! She loves to play with other dogs, and is nice with everyone. We don’t know how she would be around cats (probably playful, but not harmful). Bobby is good with kids of all ages. She is housebroken if she can be let outside frequently. Bobby is very timid at first, but she opens right up in a just a day or three. She loves to cuddle, especially at night! Bobby will sit and sleep with you if allowed. She comes on command when she's playing outside, and best of all - Bobby doesn’t dart for the door when it's opened. She is a very good girl, and will make a very fine companion for her future family!

Available for Adoption

Riley - North Carolina
Hi - I'm Riley! I am about 3 to 4 months old, and was in the shelter as a stray. I weigh 8 pounds and I'm told that I am a Rat Terrier mixed with a little Jack or maybe Beagle. I am white with brown spots and I have a full tail. The vet thinks I will be about 16-17 pounds when I grow up. I don't think I will be real tall, just thick with nice strong legs (good for playing). I am doing great with potty training. I'm still a little skittish from being at that ol' nasty shelter, but I get so excited when I see my fostermom and dad, and I am getting very brave and out-going. I enjoy playing with my toys and like to drag big towels around the house. I also like tennis balls, and I think that chasing them in the yard would be very fun. I am a little concerned about cats, but I'm starting to understand what they are and that I must treat them with respect. I have only been around 9-10 year old kids. I still have my sharp little puppy teeth and nails, and in my excitement I might scratch a very small child if not supervised. If you want a real cutie with a lot of potential then I'm your girl! I just want a home where people will play with me and love me and give me that safe, loving home I so desperately want! So if you think I could live with you please put in an application with my name on it. I can't wait to meet my new family! If you want to see some more cute pics of me click http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/riley

Ms. Ruthie - North Carolina

Ms. Ruthie is such a beautiful little dog. She is a slight girl at only 7.9 pounds, and estimated to be 1 to 2 years old. Ruthie is not short, just petite, with a little stub tail and a beautiful black head with perfect, erect ears. She was surrendered by her former owner, but we think that in her former home Ruthie must have missed out on the love and attention she so desires. Ruthie's fostermom believes that she was living in a yard or a cage her whole life, as when she got to the shelter she was extremely dirty and she was very shy when she first came to her foster home. Ruthie comes out of her shell a little more everyday, and really enjoys sitting with someone and watching a little TV. She likes the other dogs and would do better with another dog in her forever home, to show her how to be a brave, confident dog. Her "best bud" is an 8 month old puppy. Ruthie has started playing with her foster brothers and sisters and is a submissive dog within the pack. She ignores the cats and they (the cats) actually lick her when she just stands still. Due to her shy nature it might be best for Ruthie to be in a home with children over the age od 10 years. Once Ruthie has had time to warm up and get used to her new surroundings she will make someone a great little companion. Ms. Ruthie does have a mild case of heartworms, and will undergo treatment very soon. She should be available for adoption in early October. But please don't hesitate to put in a application on this tiny little honey! For more pics click http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/ruthie

Available For Adoption

Freckles - Arizona

Freckles is a rescue from Texas. She was found roaming the streets, very thin and full of fleas and other critters. After some tender loving care Freckles has begun gaining weight, her fleas and other critters are gone, with the exception of a case of heartworms - which she will begin treatment for shortly. Freckles has gone from being very tired and withdrawn to a much more vibrant, playful and confident little dog. One thing that has stayed the same with Freckles from the beginning is how sweet she has been the entire time, despite feeling not so good. She loves to be right next to you and give kisses. Freckles is perfectly house trained, and hasn't had one accident in the house. She has learned to use the doggy door or will alert you with little whimpers when she needs to go out. Freckles would make a great addition to any family, and will be available for adoption once she finishes her heartworm treatment.

Available for Adoption

Chrissy - Arizona

Chrissy comes from a shelter in Texas, where she was rescued with her brother and 2 sisters. She is a fearless, fun-loving little girl with the cutest curly tail. Chrissy gets along great with other dogs. She does chase cats, but may be young enough to learn not to. Since she is so young and fearless she should be supervised when children or larger dogs are around, to make sure she doesn't get into mischief. Chrissy is very smart and is learning to go potty outside. She loves all sorts of chew toys, tug toys, and sleeping in bed right next to you. Chrissy is utterly adorable in both looks and personality, and would make a great addition to just about any family.

Available for Adoption

Ringo - Florida

Ringo is a 1 to 2 year old male. He is very small - about 5 pounds and 11 inches tall. Ringo is crate trained is housebroken. He was a return dog to a shelter because he didn't do well with small children. Ringo is very small himself and could easily be hurt by yong children. He is a very active dog that loves to play with others dogs. Ringo loves his toys and will play tug of war with anyone that's game. He also likes to sit on your lap and get all the attention he can. Ringo sleeps in bed with his fostermom at night and loves to snuggle. He is more on the dominant side, so would not be good with another dominant dog. Ringo is a sweet little boy that needs a Furever Home.

Available for Adoption

Kalee - Texas

Kalee is a six pound, three month old (8-12-09) puppy just enjoying discovering the world. She is on a regular schedule with plenty of potty breaks, so she has not had any accidents inside. Kalee will stay in her crate, but she's not really happy about it at first. She is now beginning to quiet down pretty quickly when she's left in her crate for the night. Kalee will definitely fall asleep in your lap though! She has only been around 9-10 year old kids. Kalee has sharp little puppy teeth and nails, and in her excitement she might hurt a very small child if not supervised. She gets along well with the adult female she was rescued with. Kalee has made attempts to play with the other dogs in the household but they are older and shy so they are still warming up to her. If you have time to help her learn the "ways of the world" Kalee will be a wonderful addition to your family.

Available for Adoption

Tilly - Texas

Tilly is a 12 pound, 18 month old female. She is the biggest sweetheart! Tilly is crate trained, house trained and walks nicely on her leash. She will take the leash in her mouth as if to say "come walk with me". Her fostermom has not heard her bark yet. Tilly plays with the puppy she was rescued with. She is a little possessive of her squeaky toy, which she loves. Tilly is not at all mean though, just firm in the conviction that the toy is HERS! She sleeps in her bed at night and during daytime naps. Tilly doesn't chew on inappropriate things, but will chew on rawhide chews and nylabones. She has "altered" her squeaky toy, but has not managed to "gut" yet. For all the joy she gets from the toy, who cares if she "makes it her own"? She is ready to go to a forever home either with other playmates or as an only dog. She has only been tested around kids in the 9-10 year old range. Please consider Tilly - you will be well rewarded with lots of love and loyalty and kisses!

Available for Adoption

Ritchie (NC)
Ritchie is the definition of CUTE! He is about 8 months old and was in the shelter as a stray. He weighs 8 pounds and has a Teddy, "Type B" build. Ritchie is a little shorty with a full tail. If you want a sweetie who enjoys cuddling, then Ritchie is for you! He is crate trained and is doing very well with potty training. Ritchie is a little interested in cats, but not overly so. At night he snuggles in very close to you and just wants to be loved. He follows his fostermom everywhere, and just wants to be in on the action. Nothing really seems to bother him - Ritchie doesn't even mind his nails being clipped! He must have lived with a little girl before, as he still had fingernail polish on some of his nails. Ritchie is just a great little guy who will make someone an absolutely wonderful companion. For more pictures of Ritchie please http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/ritchie?n=0 or for a short video clip click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKU3lIn8uVo

Available for Adoption

Zeus - Pennsylvania

Please meet Zeus, our little Prince Charming. He is a one-year old, beautiful boy who is very sweet and affectionate. Zeus gets along with all the dogs in his foster home (big, small, male, female). Zeus can be a bit nervous in new surroundings and was not very fond of men when he first arrived in his foster home. We have worked very hard to help him overcome his fears.

We also discovered that he loves to play ball - though he appears to have issues with men in baseball hats. Zeus needs a fenced yard. He doesn’t enjoy going for walks because there are too many "scary things" beyond the front door. Zeus is afraid of very little children, but he is quite smitten with his fostermom’s 12-year-old grandson. Zeus needs a quiet, calm forever home, with someone home at least part of the time.

We have also discovered that Zeus does not like to walk on hardwood floors. Area rugs and runners can help him avoid exposed areas, and he seems fine with that. This little boy is 100% housebroken, sleeps in his crate with no problem, and is good riding in the car. Zeus is an absolute joy, and makes his foster-family laugh every day; he's a love-bug, a snuggle-bunny, and loves to sleep in bed under the covers.

Zeus is a ladies’ man and comes with a warning: he cannot hold his licker – he loves to give kisses! If you have the time and patience for this precious little boy, please consider him to be your best friend forever. He has so much to offer. Additional photos of Zeus may be seen at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/zeus" .

Available for Adoption

Destiny - Georgia

This beautiful girl was picked up as a stray and placed in a shelter in Tennessee. Ratbone Rescues stepped in and provided this thin little gem of a girl with a foster home where she is loved and cared for, and given proper nutrition. Destiny can move very quickly and would be a good candidate for fly ball or agility. She gets along good with the resident dogs... especially the boys. She loves to chew on bones and look through the doggie toy box for something fun to play with. Destiny is 1.5 years old and weighs 12 pounds. She has not been tested with young children... but does very well with the teenagers that frequent her foster home. Everyone that comes to the door is greeted with a wagging tail and body; she is very sweet and wants to please. Her foster family feels that Destiny should not be placed in a home with children under the age of 8 years. We are working on her potty training. Destiny mastered the doggie door the first day in her foster home, but does have an occasional accident in the house. For the most part she does her "business" outside. Destiny absolutely loveees going for walks... she gets very excited when she sees the harnesses and leashes come out. However, her foster Mom thinks she probably had never been walked on a leash prior to coming into foster care, so she needs some training in this area. Destiny needs to be on a leash or in a secure fenced in area when she is outside. She has a very strong prey drive and should not be placed in a home with cats. Destiny loves to cuddle next to you and sleep under the covers in the bed. She is looking for a loving family that will fulfill her "Destiny".

Available for Adoption

Hank Junior - South Carolina

A true son of the South and a "River Rat", Hank Junior hails from rural Lancaster County (South Carolina), near the beautiful and winding Catawba River. Hank Junior weighs between 17 and 18 pounds and is extremely well socialized. When his foster-parents picked him up from the Lancaster County Animal Shelter, parolled Hank did not hesitate and made a bee line to their waiting car. "HJ" is also a very lively and energetic dog, and would do well with either a fenced back yard or frequent walks. Hank is a very enthusiastic young dog, maybe between a year and a half and two years old. He has a lovely, streamlined form, the bouncing gait common to Ratties, a shiny coat, and marvelous, dancing eyes. It is a treat to watch him race across a backyard; he can absolutely FLY! When Hank is curious or alerted, those famous Rat Terrier ears perk up. Hank was surrendered to the animal shelter by his previous owner because they were not able to continue to care for him. Nonetheless, a country boy can survive, and Hank has prospered despite his difficulties. Hank does well with cats and is friendly with female doggies, but takes time to warm up to the boys. He loves the outdoors and would make an excellent companion for someone who enjoys a loving boy with tons of energy and affection. More pictures of this good looking fellow can be viewed at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/hankjunior

Available for Adoption

Casper - Florida
Meet Casper, the Friendly Dog. Casper is a unique lemon-colored, standard-sized Rattie who weighs 25 pounds, and is 2 to 3 years old. He also has the most amazing golden-green shade of eyes that will capture your attention immediately. Casper has done well with children over 5 years of age and is very gentle and affectionate. He is a little shy and submissive at first, but warms up quickly and responds well when given a little love and attention. Casper has been around a cat and not chased her, but he does give kitty a good hard stare at times. His favorite things are playing outside and chasing an occasional squirrel back up the tree. Casper also loves to lounge in the house at times, and see how much attention he can get from his people. Casper interacts well with the other dogs and enjoys their companionship, but he does not complain when he's alone at other times either. He also has not objected to being crated, and sleeps well in his crate at night. Casper seems to instinctively know to go outside to go to the bathroom. He does have a very mild case of heartworms, and will be treated for them before he is adopted. Casper will be available for adoption by mid-September. To see more pictures of Casper, please visit http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/casper
