Available for Adoption

Lady - Oregon

Lady is estimated to be eight years old, and weighs 24 pounds. She is a bright girl who is actively looking to bond with her person. Lady will seek out physical affection, such as belly rubs, being petted and staying close to people. She has had a difficult time with the loss of her original owner, multiple foster placements, one failed adoption, and an airplane transport across the country. Lady has picked up some negative behaviors on her travels, including pulling while on leash and excessive barking at other dogs, squirrels, cats and motorcycles when out walking with her foster family. She has made significant gains in learning her place in her current foster home, but introductions to other pets can be difficult. Lady has previously lived with cats and other dogs; in her foster home she is living with other dogs. Lady has undergone a series of medical tests to address incontinence, however the results were inconclusive; she is taking daily medication that helps to a degree, but she currently wears a dog diaper to keep accidents to a minimum. Lady would be thrilled to be the only dog in a home - though she would also benefit from being in a multi-dog household - as long as there is firm guidance. Due to her previous experiences and insecurities, we feel she would do best with an experienced dog owner and/or a family that is committed to consistency in the household and on-going "basic training". Lady is smart and caring, and has amazing potential.

Available for Adoption

Toria - Georgia

Toria is a variant of the name Victoria, meaning victorious or conqueror. She was rescued from a gassing shelter just a few hours before she was scheduled to be put to sleep. She had an upper respiratory infection & kennel cough, was infested with fleas, and was very thin. Now she's a happy, healthy, petite bundle of love. Toria is 1 year and 4 months old, and weighs 12 pounds; she is a "type B" Rattie. Toria is very leery of people she doesn't know very well when they enter the house or come out of rooms after they're in the house. She will need a family that is Terrier wise and willing to continue her training to overcome this issue. Toria is best suited for an adult only family or one with children that are at least 12 years old. She loves to go for walks and car rides. Toria is very playful, and especially loves to play with a ball. She would be an excellent candidate for fly-ball. Toria does not attempt to run away because she loves to be with her people and is a great cuddle bug. Please consider opening your heart and home to a precious soul who will be your loyal companion. Toria is looking for a forever family to call her own.

Rosco P Coaltrain - Pennsylvania

Hi my name is Rosco and I am approximately 2 years old. I'm well trained, and waiting for someone to love me. I am crate trained and house trained (on a strict schedule). I am an excellent guard dog and will let you know when someone's around. I love to play with my soft squeaky toys and balls of all kinds. I follow direction well just by voice commands, but I am still working on my "recall". I am very respectful of others' belongings and only chew or play with dog-appropriate toys. Did I mention that I love my crate? I go to bed all by myself when I'm tired, as long as you leave the door open. Shortly after I arrived at my foster home one of my foster brothers had an accident, and I helped take care of him by sleeping by his bed and getting mama when he fussed. My fostermom calls me "McDreamy" cause she says I'm everyone's dream dog. I even pick up my toys when I'm done playing! I walk on a leash nicely and do all my "business" outside. Here's some photos of me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyiQ1iLzSxI&feature=player_embedded and http://www.picturetrail.com/uid7276359"

I am very well behaved with children of all ages. Cats are okay if they don't run. I currently weigh 18 pounds which seems to be a perfect weight for me. So if you are looking for a well behaved and well trained dog I am your man; please take a look at me and consider letting me into your heart and home.

Radar - North Carolina

HI! I am Radar, so named for my ears. According to the vet I am about 1 1/2 -2 yrs old. I was at the shelter as a stray. I hate to brag but I am really cute. My head looks a bit like a Chihuahua but my body is all Rat Terrier, as well as my sweet loving nature. When I see you I will just wiggle, wiggle, wiggle and wag my tail. My tail is a little crooked, I think I must have hurt it when I was younger, but boy can it wag! I love to sit on laps and play with toys. I like my foster bothers and sisters and even the cats! I am a little submissive to all but that is ok because it makes me an easy fit into your home. I weigh about 10 pounds but I am too skinny. I am trying to put on a few more pounds. Oh, and I like to wear sweaters when it is cold. I have not had an accident in the house since I have been at my foster home. I am not a big fan of crates and I like to sleep on my own bed next to the big bed. I don't know about kids as I haven't been around them, but I am pretty darn small so probably best if I wasn't with toddlers. If you want a sweet, lap loving dog who loves to wiggle then I am your dog. Check me out at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/radar or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqhVIulV2qw or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2zR7g0AAA0 You wont be disappointed.

Available for Adoption

Lilly - Washington

This is Lilly. She was a owner surrender, and is a rare lemon color. Lilly is a larger Rattie (22 pounds), at 1 year old. She is very active and GREAT with kids - she will even listen to them when they give her commands. She does tend to nip when excited but does not hurt anyone. Lilly is excellent on a Gentle Leader, and is also great with other dogs. She has had no accidents in the house and is perfect in a crate. Lilly does enjoy sleeping with her fostermom. She is an absolute cuddle bug and loves to be held. She will give cats a chase, but we are working with her and she is getting better with this. Lilly will leave the cats alone if she's an only dog. She needs a home with a 6 foot fence, as she is able to jump a lower fence. With lots of love and a bit more training Lilly will be a great dog for any home! She is smart and learns quickly - her behavior has improved so much since she's been in her foster home! Are you that special someone who can love Lilly for the rest of her life? Additional photos of Lilly can be seen at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/lilly

Available for Adoption

Pippin - Washington

Meet Pippin! This little guy was pulled from a shelter in Los Angeles, and was flown to Oregon with generous donations from an admiring public. He is a B-Type Rattie and weighs in at a whopping 12 pounds. Pippin is as cute as he looks. He came here with no training, and is a work in progress. Within a week Pippin has learned "go potty", "wait", "off", and "out". It is amazing what he will do for some kibble/treats! Pippin did not know his name, but with a bit of work he knows his name and “here”. He is also learning what is his to chew on and what he is to leave alone - as long as you stay on top of it. Pippin does tend to get possessive with his toys, and will nip at young children who try to take them. We would recommend that he goes to a home with children age 10 and older. Pippin was also a bit food possessive, but with a week of constant work he is doing wonderful about his food bowl. A home with a fenced yard is a must, and he does want to try leave with you when the door is open. Pip's fostermom would prefer a local adoption, to help Pippin adjust to his new home. To see more great pix of Pippin please see http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/pippin. If you're that special someone who can continue his training at home, please fill out an application. Pippin is a great guy - fun to watch play by himself, and so full of life! With some easy guidance you will find yourself with an awesome companion.

Can You Help Cody Brody Ratbone?

Cody Brody is a12 pound, bluetri-colored RatTerrier, estimatedto be 2 years old. Little Cody was takento an animal shelterin east-central Florida after being tossed from a moving car. When Cody Brodyhit the ground hef ractured the radiusand the ulna in bothof his front legs. His right leg had a"compound fracture", which means the broken ends of thebones came throughthe skin.

The shelter took little Cody to a vet for treatment, and then started looking for a rescue to take him and get him on the road to recovery. A local rescue offered but backed out, so Ratbone Rescues was contacted - and we picked him up the next day; this was 9 days after the local vet had cast his legs.

Little Cody was very fearful in the shelter. He was also in a lot of pain, so he showed his teeth and growled at everyone. He also tried to bite if anyone made a move to touch him. We were sure that Cody was just in pain, and that once he was out of the shelter he could learn to trust again. This was proved after his arrival at his temporary foster home, where he slowly showed his care-givers that he was open to their attempts to "connect" with him.

After 3 days in his temporary foster home Cody made the drive north to Daytona to meet his permanent fostermom - and his orthopedic surgeons. But the enclosed cars soon made it clear that there was something very wrong with Cody - something really stinky! Instead of waiting for his appointment the next day, Cody's fostermom took him straight to the vet's office, where we found that the fiberglass cast had not been padded - and had cut into his right leg and foot. These wounds and the open wound under the cast on his right leg had become septic (infected) - which was what caused him to smell so bad. Cody was not especially happy to see the staff at our vet's office, but that would soon change.

X-rays revealed that Cody's legs had never been set, and the bones were overlapped by 1/2 inch on the right leg and 1 inch on the left. Once our vets removed the painful casts and got his wounds cleaned - and gave him medications for infection and pain - Cody was a new dog! He is friendly, trusting, and sweet.

Cody's surgeons - Dr. Robert Goring and Dr. Steve Neihaus, of Affiliated Veterinary Specialists (Orange Park, FL) - have a plan for our boy. First, they will give him time for his open wounds to begin to heal. Next, they will operate on Cody's legs, removing a small section of each bone to allow proper alignment; stainless steel plates and pins will be used to hold the bones in place while they heal. Before surgery and during the healing process Cody will be given antibiotics and medications to manage his pain.

Cody's surgery is scheduled for December 8, 2009. After surgery he will spend several days in the hospital, so a close eye can be kept on his progress. Then Cody will return to his foster home for 8 to 12 weeks of recovery and rehabilitation. At 4 and 8 weeks post-surgery Cody will probably need x-rays, to make sure his bones are mending as they should.

To watch Cody's progress please use this link.WARNING: graphic photos of open wounds - not for the squeamish!

The estimated cost of Cody Brody's surgical and medical care is $4,000 - if there are no unexpected complications. Our wonderful "Dr. G" gives us a 50% discount, so we need to raise at least $2,000 to pay for Cody's care. Please help us to reach our goal.

Dazzle - Texas

Hi everyone! I am Dazzle. I think I got that name because my personality is sparkling and spunky. I was rescued from a shelter near Fort Worth, Texas. I am an eight month old girl and only weight six pounds (I may have some long haired Chihuahua somewhere in my background). When I was little (well, smaller than I am now), my leg got broken and nobody took me to a vet to have it fixed. My leg didn't heal correctly, but I get around just fine on three! I jumped up on the back of the couch last night (from the floor, by the way) so maybe I only need three legs anyway. Oh, and I've figured out if I bark a little, the big dogs notice me and will play with me.

I'm a snuggle bug and will sit in your lap as long as you let me. And if you won't let me, I'll play with a toy or a kong until you are ready for me. I will bring a ball back to you if you'll throw it for me. I am on a regular schedule and usually make it outside to do my business. But I AM a puppy, remember, so I use puppy pads if I can't wait. Please see the rest of my pictures at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/dazzle

Available For Adoption

Tiny Tex - Texas

Howdy folks! I'm Tiny Tex. I was rescued from a shelter in Fort Worth, Texas (hence my name!). I'm a young (1 1/2 year old) little (10 pounds) guy with a big personality. I haven't been here long, but I already get along great with my playmates. I have some very nice manners when I am by myself, but when I'm with the other doggies, I have to jump around a lot to be sure I get noticed (remember I'm a little guy!).
I'm very smart and have learned to walk nicely on a leash and wait to be told to come through the door. I'm on a regular schedule and wait to do my business outside. I like to play tug-o-war with my playmates. I also like to chase a ball or a Frisbee and sometime I even bring it back to you! After a day of playing I like to sit in the chair and snooze while mom watches TV. I have met some of the dogs in the neighborhood and they are pretty cool.
I've even been shopping at PetSmart and let me tell you, that place is a dream come true! I have some pictures in an album at http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/tinytex but mom has trouble keeping me still to snap the pictures! If you need an energetic little guy around your house to love and play with, look no further... I'm your guy!

Available For Adoption

Louie - Florida

Louie is 9 months old and weighs 18 pounds. He was rescued from a shelter in Alabama. Louie gets along with the other dogs and the kitties in his foster home. In his last (temporary) foster home he was around young children and did very well with them.

He is still working on his house-breaking, and doesn't know how to use a doggie door; he goes out on a frequent potty schedule, and is doing well with that. Louie doesn't care to spend time in a crate, though he will sleep in one if it's close to his fostermom's bed. He's a bit shy when first meeting people, but quickly warms up and gets very friendly.
Louie is affectionate, sweet & gentle - and loves to stay close to his fostermom. To see more pictures of Louie please go to http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/louie . Swifty is eagerly awaiting his new Forever family!

Available For Adoption

Brogan - Florida

Little Brogan was born on September 15, 2009. He weighed 6 pounds at 9 weeks of age, which means he will probably weigh 15-18 pounds when fully grown. Brogan is paper trained and has begun house training; he will start crate training in a couple of weeks.

Brogan is a happy, affectionate little guy who gets along with the other dogs at his foster home. He is also good with the kitties - when they let him get close. Brogan's ideal family should be willing to spend lots of time with him - and take him through puppy training classes. He woud love kids of his own, another small dog to play with, and a nice big fenced yard to run in.

Additional photos of Brogan can be seen at
http://imageevent.com/rattiemom/nurseries/roisinsrascals . If you think Brogan is a good match for your family, please apply for him today.
