The quilt is quilted! Next step is off to the person who will do the binding around the edges. Here's a peek at the quilting.

The applique blocks have a random stippling in the blocks so that the quilting doesn't cover the work.

The borders and pieced blocks are quilted with a star design to compliment the star blocks.

This little peek above is of a corner of the center block designed to represent Mother's day.

It won't be much longer now before raffle tickets are available for sale for this FABULOUS holiday quilt.

****MISSING DOG ALERT**** Foster dog JASPER went missing from a dog park at Turkey Brook park in Mount Olive, NJ. Please contact Ratbone Rescue at 1-800-755-7287. Last seen wearing a red collar with black leash attached. His name is new to him but may answer to it. Help us get JASPER back to a warm home with a little girl that loves him.

Reunion/Meetup!

Ratbone Rescues is having their first southeast reunion/fund raiser on April 30th at Dogwood Park in Jacksonville, Florida. The address is 7407 Salisbury Rd S. It will be from 9am to 6pm.

Lunch will be served, there will be games for doggies & their humans, contests and prizes! Admission is a pet-related item to be raffled off at the end of the event. Please join Ratbone Rescues for their first southeastern reunion!

Rat Terrier owners please bring your dog leashed and a crate to stay in for the times when you are unable to watch him. The site is a 1 acre fenced area. There will be water stations, as well as doggie potty stations.

Gracie Mae is an 8 to 12 month old black tri-color Rat Terrier.

She is originally from South Carolina.

Her fostermom tells us that Gracie is very sweet and affectionate - eventhough she was probably hit by a car and left for dead. Byt he time a good samaritan found her and got her tot he shelter Gracie was almost starved to death, as well as severely injured. The kind folks at the shelter nursed Gracie Mae until she was ablet o eat and drink on her own and Ratbone could pick her up.

Gracie traveled to North Carolina to have surgery and recover. Here she is just before her surgery.

Here is Gracie after surgery., Ouchie! That's a "Kirschner external apparatus", a metal appliance that she will wear until her bones have "knit". Gracie will require another surgery to remove the hardware.

This is Ratbone's SIXTH Quilt Project!

This year we proudly present a memorial quilt dedicated to all the well-loved ratties who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

Ratbone Rescues' big fall fund-raiser is underway early this year! WE will be promoting the memorial quilt raffle from May 16th to September 15th this year.
The proceeds from this quilt raffle will be used to help pay for vaccinations, spay/neuters, and other veterinary needs of our fosters.

The Lee family adopted TULIA back in November and we caught up with them recently to see how things were going with their new four-legged family member. We learned that things have gone beautifully. She is a happy and healthy young rattie and has made herself right at home with no adjustment issues. They love and enjoy their new Ratbone dog. Way to go Trulia!

Mollie was found at a job site by her current owners, about 4 years ago; she was alone on a busy highway. Her former owner eventually showed up and took her home, but later moved and left Mollie with their parents. When Mollie showed up on the job site again and the former owner's parents said they did not want her, she went home with her new family.

Mollie has a fear of bigger dogs, but she will play with small dogs. When a new (much bigger) puppy moved into her home - Mollie fell in love with him. Mollie has recently begun having seizures. She was on medication but it did not seem to help. Currently she stays outside, in a crate, or in a room with no carpet when no one is home. Mollie loves children and small dogs. She does not like other "critters".

She sometimes likes to hide her treats to save them for later. Mollie loves being loved on and loves giving kisses; she loves people more than anything! She loves to play and to look out the window. Mollie is a sweet and adorable dog with special needs - who is looking for a very special family.

Hercules - Florida

Hercules is sociable with dogs and enjoys going to dog parks to swim, run and play. He has never lived with or been raised around very small children and cats or any other animals. He enjoys getting baths but does not like getting his nails clipped. He is very smart and intelligent and knows and understands basic commands (sit, stay, down, come here, go). He is ok and use to traveling in cars but can get a little nervous and have a little bit of anxiety. He is ok at the vet and groomers but does get a little nervous when going to the vet.

Hercules has some bad habits such as being sneaky and for some strange reason likes to eat paper towels and/or tissue. He does not have limits when it comes to getting in the bed, open garbage cans in the house and begging for table food. He is very alert and barks when someone is at the door and a great watch dog. He can be territorial over his toys/food. His favorite hobbies are: looking out the window, running, being outside and rolling around in the grass, chasing lizards and bugs. He doesn't’t like being confined in small spaces such as crates/carriers for long periods of times if so, he will bark excessively if he does not see anyone in site.

He likes to hide especially under the bed or in the closet and you may catch him sleeping there. He loves dog toys and balls especially the ones that make noise. He is house trained and does not chew on furniture or shoes. He is full of energy, a fast runner, and high jumper. He enjoys playing with other dogs and loves human play interaction. He is loyal to family and friends and loves getting attention. He will bark at strangers but has never bitten anyone. Give him boundaries, toys, room to run and play and lots of love and attention you have yourself a joyful and happy dog

Louie Udin - New York

Louie Udin is an amazingly friendly dog who is very loved by his current owners. They know they can’t provide him with the attention he needs and deserves, and so they want to be sure he goes to the right family. Louie does need lots of attention, either from his owners or from a dog companion. He is jealous of the attention that his current owners give to their two young children, but he is never aggressive towards them, and does love children. Louie needs plenty of exercise daily.

His current owners live in a small apartment in the city and work long hours, so Louie is overweight due to lack of exercise. His current owners feel strongly that Louie’s new family be able to exercise him regularly and provide him with the attention he is lacking. Louie would do best in a home with people who have previous experience with dogs, as he thrives with the stimulation and training that only experienced dog owners can provide. Louie can reliably stay home alone for long periods of time, but he has been known to chew up stuffed animals and wooden (children's) toys if he gets worried that his owners have been gone for too long.

He is crate-trained, but he is allowed free run of the house at this time (though he could adjust to staying in a crate again). Louie is a curious dog, so he should not be let off of his leash; he has been known to escape from backyards that are not fully fenced. He gets along well with most other dogs.

Muna LilBit in Florida

Muna is a Hopi word meaning “overflowing spring”, and this little 2 year old is an overflowing spring of Love. Muna is a sweet, tri-colored Rat Terrier, weighing 10-12 pounds. She was left in a shelter with her litter of 5 two-week old babies. Muna is a very loving little girl, and gentle with her foster family. She plays well with all the dogs in her foster home. Muna Lil Bit is potty trained and uses the doggie door to go outside and do her business. She loves to ride and go outside for walks on a leash. Muna doesn't walk well with a regular collar, so a harness is a must for this playful little girl. She is always eager to go outside or to jump in the car with you for a trip to anywhere you’ll take her. She loves her toys and chasing Mr. Squirrel with her foster siblings. One thing Lil Bit does not like is a crate. Muna much prefers to sleep with her people and to be really close to them most of the time. She is not destructive in her foster home at all, so her foster parents have not crated her due to fear that she would hurt herself in trying to escape. Her name may be Muna Lil Bit, but she has a lot of loving to give! She is still a puppy in many ways, and loves to run the yard and hunt for moles and squirrels with her foster sister. Muna does respond to the "come" command, though if she has treed a squirrel sometimes you have to go get her - even at feeding time. A home with at least a 6 foot fence (no chain link, please) is a must for this little girl or her people will have to be out walking her all the time; she has so much energy and “bounce” in her step, and just loves to be outside. When she's after Mr. Squirrel she can and does leap over five feet in the air - or tries to run right up the fence or tree to get him. As an added bonus Muna loves to snuggle and be held. And when the sky turns dark she's ready for bed and a good snuggle with her people. Would you love to have a dog that is still a puppy in many ways - without having to potty train, teach to walk on leash, and learn to love going for a ride with you? Are you someone who wants a dog to love on that will love you back, unconditionally? If so, then this sweet girl is the one for you. Update on Mr Peebo in Maryland

Mr Peebo is looking for a stable family to love and cherish him. He comes from a broken home and is hoping to find a new, loving home with commitment to love him. Peebo is such a youthful, happy go lucky boy, and adapts well to new environments - always wanting to please. He is always trying to be first in line on the giving and receiving of loving and affection in the pack, and he loves to play with toys. Peebo is 8 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. He's a little "attention hound" for sure, loving everyone who will pay attention to him - especially children. Peebo gets along with adults, children and other dogs. He does have a prey drive, wanting to chase small animals (squirrels, mice, etc) or cats outdoors. Peebo is currently in Glen Burnie (MD), living with 4 other dogs and with human adults. He is looking for a family that he can devote love and affection to.... while protecting them from Marauding Squirrels in the yard.

MaShuga in New York

Meet MaShuga. She is about 2 to 3 years old, and is such a sweet girl. Shuga weighs about 16 pounds. She was found wondering the streets (in Missouri) alone and pregnant. The lovely people who found Shuga helped her get to New York, to make sure she was safe and to get her into rescue. About two weeks after her arrival she happily delivered 9 bouncing babies, and what a GREAT moma she was!

MaShuga is a very sweet dog; she is loving and cuddly. She is good with dogs and kids, though cats she will chase if they engage her. Lady - Oregon

Lady is estimated to be eight years old, and weighs 24 pounds. She is a bright girl who is actively looking to bond with her person. Lady will seek out physical affection, such as belly rubs, being petted and staying close to people. She has had a difficult time with the loss of her original owner, multiple foster placements, one failed adoption, and an airplane transport across the country. Lady has picked up some negative behaviors on her travels, including pulling while on leash and excessive barking at other dogs, squirrels, cats and motorcycles when out walking with her foster family. She has made significant gains in learning her place in her current foster home, but introductions to other pets can be difficult. Lady has previously lived with cats and other dogs; in her foster home she is living with other dogs. Lady has undergone a series of medical tests to address incontinence, however the results were inconclusive; she is taking daily medication that helps to a degree, but she currently wears a dog diaper to keep accidents to a minimum. Lady would be thrilled to be the only dog in a home - though she would also benefit from being in a multi-dog household - as long as there is firm guidance. Due to her previous experiences and insecurities, we feel she would do best with an experienced dog owner and/or a family that is committed to consistency in the household and on-going "basic training". Lady is smart and caring, and has amazing potential.

Toria - Georgia

Toria is a variant of the name Victoria, meaning victorious or conqueror. She was rescued from a gassing shelter just a few hours before she was scheduled to be put to sleep. She had an upper respiratory infection & kennel cough, was infested with fleas, and was very thin. Now she's a happy, healthy, petite bundle of love. Toria is 1 year and 4 months old, and weighs 12 pounds; she is a "type B" Rattie. Toria is very leery of people she doesn't know very well when they enter the house or come out of rooms after they're in the house. She will need a family that is Terrier wise and willing to continue her training to overcome this issue. Toria is best suited for an adult only family or one with children that are at least 12 years old. She loves to go for walks and car rides. Toria is very playful, and especially loves to play with a ball. She would be an excellent candidate for fly-ball. Toria does not attempt to run away because she loves to be with her people and is a great cuddle bug. Please consider opening your heart and home to a precious soul who will be your loyal companion. Toria is looking for a forever family to call her own.

Rosco P Coaltrain - Pennsylvania

Hi my name is Rosco and I am approximately 2 years old. I'm well trained, and waiting for someone to love me. I am crate trained and house trained (on a strict schedule). I am an excellent guard dog and will let you know when someone's around. I love to play with my soft squeaky toys and balls of all kinds. I follow direction well just by voice commands, but I am still working on my "recall". I am very respectful of others' belongings and only chew or play with dog-appropriate toys. Did I mention that I love my crate? I go to bed all by myself when I'm tired, as long as you leave the door open. Shortly after I arrived at my foster home one of my foster brothers had an accident, and I helped take care of him by sleeping by his bed and getting mama when he fussed. My fostermom calls me "McDreamy" cause she says I'm everyone's dream dog. I even pick up my toys when I'm done playing! I walk on a leash nicely and do all my "business" outside. Radar - North Carolina

HI! I am Radar, so named for my ears. According to the vet I am about 1 1/2 -2 yrs old. I was at the shelter as a stray. I hate to brag but I am really cute. My head looks a bit like a Chihuahua but my body is all Rat Terrier, as well as my sweet loving nature. When I see you I will just wiggle, wiggle, wiggle and wag my tail. My tail is a little crooked, I think I must have hurt it when I was younger, but boy can it wag! I love to sit on laps and play with toys. I like my foster bothers and sisters and even the cats! I am a little submissive to all but that is ok because it makes me an easy fit into your home. I weigh about 10 pounds but I am too skinny. I am trying to put on a few more pounds. Oh, and I like to wear sweaters when it is cold. I have not had an accident in the house since I have been at my foster home. I am not a big fan of crates and I like to sleep on my own bed next to the big bed. I don't know about kids as I haven't been around them, but I am pretty darn small so probably best if I wasn't with toddlers.
