Lady - Oregon

Lady is estimated to be eight years old, and weighs 24 pounds. She is a bright girl who is actively looking to bond with her person. Lady will seek out physical affection, such as belly rubs, being petted and staying close to people. She has had a difficult time with the loss of her original owner, multiple foster placements, one failed adoption, and an airplane transport across the country. Lady has picked up some negative behaviors on her travels, including pulling while on leash and excessive barking at other dogs, squirrels, cats and motorcycles when out walking with her foster family. She has made significant gains in learning her place in her current foster home, but introductions to other pets can be difficult. Lady has previously lived with cats and other dogs; in her foster home she is living with other dogs. Lady has undergone a series of medical tests to address incontinence, however the results were inconclusive; she is taking daily medication that helps to a degree, but she currently wears a dog diaper to keep accidents to a minimum. Lady would be thrilled to be the only dog in a home - though she would also benefit from being in a multi-dog household - as long as there is firm guidance. Due to her previous experiences and insecurities, we feel she would do best with an experienced dog owner and/or a family that is committed to consistency in the household and on-going "basic training". Lady is smart and caring, and has amazing potential.

Jorge in Oregon

Jorge (pronounced the Spanish way: 'HOR-hey'), is a sleek Rat Terrier with erect ears and a long tail. He was rescued from a hoarding situation and then held in a shelter for a few months. Jorge is still learning about how to get along in a human home. The stairs were foreign objects at first, but now he navigates them with ease. Jorge was very well socialized to dogs, but wasn't sure about humans. He's still rather shy of reaching hands.

Jorge wears an easy-walk harness and is learning to walk where the human leads, rather than where he wants to go. He is submissive to other dogs and will likely get along with any dog in his future home. Jorge has visited the local dog park and went to a regional Ratbone Rescues gathering, where he waited politely in an ex-pen that he could have easily jumped out of. He is gentle and playful. Due to his background, he thinks that many plastic things are chew toys (single-serve salad dressing packets, food storage containers), so new and better chew toys should be available in his forever home.

Jorge watches his human closely and responds to his name. Humans who are lying down are much less scary; he may come up and snuggle right up to you if you're lying down. He has responded to clicker training, and is agile & eager to jump up on things. Jorge does not do well with the outdoor cats at his foster home. He has not been exposed to children, but should do well with respectful children over the age of 12.

Jorge still needs a bit of help with his potty training. He has not demonstrated any tendency to food guarding, probably due to his extreme submissiveness. Jorge is blossoming into an affectionate dog, and will need just the right forever home to help complete his transformation from an abandoned pack dog to a beloved pampered pet.

Gordy is a survivor of a hoarder in New Mexico. He is approximately one year old and weighs 15 pounds. Coming from an environment that didn't provide a great deal of human touch, Gordy is shy. He is very sweet natured and gets along very well with other dogs, so we feel he would do best with another dog to model from. Gordy is wary of people and will take time to warm up. He doesn't yet feel comfortable being petted, but he takes treats very softly and wags his tail to greet you. Gordy is inquisitive, gentle, and playful with other dogs. He uses the doggy door and sleeps in his own bed at night. Gordy has only been in foster care a short time, and hasn't fully began to trust; once he settles he will be a wonderful companion.

Milo Ponder - Oregon

Milo Ponder is a black and white Rat Terrier in Portland, Oregon who is need of a forever home. His original owner rescued him from a puppy mill and did not realize how much responsibility having a dog is. Milo P is a little over a year old. He loves long walks at the dog park, beach, and even just a walk around the block keeps him happy. He is eager to please, intelligent, and a fast learner. Milo is neutered. He has been raised around two Beagles and a cat. Milo is house trained but does have full time access to a dog door. He is crate trained but has spent little time there. He much prefers to snuggle with people and is an excellent foot warmer. Milo loves to play with his toys and is thrilled when someone joins in to play with him. He loves playing with the youngest Beagle in the household and sometimes even with the cat. He has shown no signs of being aggressive towards the household dogs or cat. He does well at the off-leash dog park and has shown no signs of aggression towards other dogs at the park. He is leash trained, knows his name, sits, stays, and comes on command. He will get in the car on the command of "load up". Milo loves dog treats but is eager to please for just praise alone. He loves car rides, but does not like to be near open windows. Like any Rat Terrier he thrives with interaction and activity during the day, but he is also content to sit on someone's lap and relax in the evening. Milo does not have much experience with children other than the occassional encounter during walks; in those instances, other than being somewhat shy, he did well. He is shy when meeting new people or dogs, except at the dog park. Once he knows someone though he believes they are his best friend.

Note: This dog is a "Guardian Assistance Placement" dog, meaning he/she is being cared for in a home that is not affiliated with Ratbone Rescues. The guardian has supplied vet records and signed an agreement giving Ratbone the right and responsibility to rehome the dog, but Ratbone does not have physical custody and cannot otherwise vouch for any of the information provided.

Bonnie is an 11 pound, two year old, former back yard breeder female. She is so very sweet tempered & kind, and has no food or toy aggressions. Bonnie gets along very well with other dogs and puppies, and would probably do well with cats. Being a caged breeder dog Bonnie had little contact with people, and as a result she is shy, scared and submissive. She is learning to love and trust slowly, and we are working on leash and potty training. Bonnie has just started to play with toys, and if a person is sitting or laying down she will be cuddled up next to you, getting as close as she can; she's not a big licker. Bonnie loves having her soft belly rubbed, and relaxes like butter to your touch. She would be good in a home with another dog to pattern from, but not a good choice if you have children or a loud home atmosphere. Bonnie is going to be a wonderful dog for a very lucky adopter.

My name is Bravo, and I'm a gorgeous tan and white, 2-3 year old boy. I've had a rough time, but I'm doing better now. When I was rescued from a North Texas shelter, I had to get stitches in my shoulder because I'd been attacked by other dogs. I also ended up having to wear a neck brace for several weeks because one of the vertebrae in my neck had been broken. Because of that injury I can only wear a harness - no collars. After I recovered from my physical wounds, I was treated for heartworms. I have fun bossing around the dogs in my foster home, but I would love to be an only dog. I love to be petted, have my tummy rubbed and snuggle - though new people can be a bit scary (balls are a little scary, too). But I love rawhide chews! I like to throw them up in the air and play with them before I chew them up. I'm housebroken as long as the weather's nice (when it isn't I need a gentle push out the doggie door). I'm a great watch dog! I'm especially brave when my foster mom is outside and I want to protect her.

Soldier came into rescue on Veterans Day. He had been a stray and was picked up by the Humane Society. No one claimed him and the Humane Society liked him so well that they held him until Ratbone could get to him. Soldier is part Jack Russell but his disposition is all friendly Rat Terrier. Soldier is about 20 pounds of muscle and is approximately 2 1/2 years old. Although he is lively and likes to play, he is not hyper and he is not alpha. Other dogs can take his food away from him. Soldier needs some work on his manners. He does know "sit" but he doesn't know his name yet and he doesn't understand "Come". His foster mom is working on that. As Soldier loves to please and trains easily, it won't be long before he learns some manners. This is a nice dog. Soldier is being fostered in Oregon.

Trucker Mickey is a 10 year old, large boned Standard Rat Terrier. He waskept outside and fed fattening foods for the past year until he became anobese dog. He was also extremely depressed when he came into rescue. Mick'sfoster mom has had him on a weight loss program and he has lost 12 poundsand he has become a happy dog again. Mick loves to go to the doggy park andsocialize with other dogs. He is also extremely happy getting to be aninside dog again with couch privileges. Mick plays well with other dogs, ishouse broken, will sleep anywhere you want him to and is just an all aroundgood natured dog. Mick is low maintenance but he will warn you if someonecomes to the door. Basically, Mick is a sweet, calm dog who is very gratefulfor a scratch behind the ear and a loving word now and then. He is easy tolive with and very loyal. Trucker Mickey is being fostered in Oregon.

Betty Boop is a little 12 pound female who has been badly over bred. She is about four years old and the first part of her life was hard. She is afraidof strangers but has become a very loving little girl with her fosterparents. Betty needs a safe, loving and secure environment. If she hearsfirecrackers or gunshots, she is very capable of going into a panic whereshe either hides or runs. If she runs, she will not let strangers near her. She would not be happy in a noisy home with lots of children. Betty has nowhad all of her medical work done and she is in good health. She is awonderful little dog in her foster home, responsive and very cuddly. OnceBetty warms up to you and realizes that you will not hurt her, she is anoutgoing, loving lap dog. Betty is house broken, uses a doggy door, is goodwith other dogs, is crate trained and will try and sneak into the bed. This is a very special little dog. Betty Boop is being fostered in Oregon.

A Comet has landed on Ratbone Rescues and he is the cutest little fellow you have ever met. He weighs 13 pounds and needs to gain at least another 2 or 3 pounds as he is very thin. The weight, could probably not keep up with this active, playful little guy. He loves to play fetch with the ball and can fly like a comet to catch the ball in mid-air at times. Comet is about a year old and has a lot of puppy in him. Let us know soon if Comet is the dog for you as this shooting star won't last long. Sookie was a stray in Georgia, pregnant and unclaimed at the shelter. She had her babies the day after she was pulled from the shelter, and travelled to Florida to raise her little family. Her babies are ready for homes of their own now, so Sookie is beginning to think about a forever family of her own. Sookie is a devoted mother, but she is also a very determined squirrel hunter.
